How to Care for your new Piercing
Congratulations on your new piercing!
The following information will provide you with guidance in caring for your piercing to promote proper healing
.
Important Dos:
DAILY: Rinse piercing with fresh water in the shower to loosen any very hard material, aka “crusty stuff”, that forms on jewelry. After shower, do a saline clean. (see below)
Three or four times throughout the day, you want to do a saline clean following these guidelines.
- ALWAYS thoroughly wash your hands first.
- Spray entrance and exit holes with wound wash solution. (We recommend NeilMed)
- Wipe crusty discharge from jewelry with non-woven gauze soaked with wound wash
- Pat Piercing dry with a non woven gauze.
- Check ends for tightness
- Take Ibuprofen every 4-6 hours for the first 7-10 days to help eliminate swelling
Important Don’ts:
- ABSOLUTELY DO NOT remove jewelry during the healing process UNLESS instructed to do so by a medical professional.
- AVOID allowing the following to come in contact with the piercing site or jewelry: makeup or cosmetic products, any health and beuty products, suntan lotions/oils (including spray tans), harsh chemicals including natural aftercare products such as tea-tree oils, etc. ONLY USE 0.9% STERILE WOUND WASH SALINE SOLUTIONS.
- DO NOT ROTATE, turn, or twist jewelry during the healing time. This may cause damage to the piercing channel.
